Nature has a long-lasting bonding with man which can never be neglected while giving an aesthetic experience. When nature through innovative designs forces humans to come in contact with them, it simultaneously sensitizes humans to the existence of nature all around. An example of such a design would be the ‘Growth Plate’ designed by Andrew Harmon, a student of the School of Art and Design, Northern Michigan University. By establishing a contact between the nature and the user the design of this switch board is inspired by the study of hybrid environments in urban ecology, so the Growth Plate light switch seeks to bring awareness to nature. These man and nature interactions in turn result in an active participation of the person in his or her immediate environment.

The Growth Plate combines greenery with objects that we cannot avoid coming into contact with in our daily lives. When a person during his daily activities comes across greenery in mundane objects like switch boards, the person is forced to acknowledge and be aware of the existence of plants as another living representative of the same ecosystem which he or she inhabits. The little plate covers the area of 12.2 cm x 7.7 cm x 1.9 cm and displays small greenery on it. The little and cool switch board has given a brilliant idea which no one has ever discovered, as we always unnoticed such small thing to decorate and enhance, the designer added multiple fresh arrangements and grass beds on the small board. .
